Cognito's Service Management Expo Round-up

With SME over for another year, it’s time to reflect on the three days, and what we learned.

We learned that people working in field service and FM - delegates, partners, customers – are really great. Thanks to everyone who came by to see us. You made the show so much more enjoyable.

We went along to some fantastic talks and presentations where we learned and we were inspired.

Highlights included a panel of service experts, skilfully moderated by Kris Oldland of Field Service News as well as the keynotes Karren Brady CBE, Sir Ranulph Fiennes OBE, and Sir Chris Hoy MBE.
From the expert panel, we learned:
  • Our industry must provide customers with a total experience, not just a product
  • Data and analysis is vital in demonstrating value to customers
  • The upcoming technologies that most excited the panel are machine learning, Google Glass and driverless cars.
And from the keynotes, we learned:
  • There is nothing worse than working for a company that has no expectations
  • No performance improvement is too small to count
  • You can’t manage people without caring about their motivations
We also learned just how awesome Karren Brady is.  Thanks for the retweet Karren
Also, despite the fact that SME is the one chance each year to find out what is new, catch up with old friends, and be motivated and enthused by all the exciting developments in our industry, we learned that some people are just at the show for the freebies.  27 packs of tic tacs? Really??  How fresh do you need to be???

And just how hard it is to start a hashtag. #overheardSME. #notthatsuccessful
And finally, although for one brief moment we thought we had found a towering goddess in human form, we learned that there really is no one taller than Keith.

Overall, we had a great time at SME and we’ve already booked our stand for 2016.
Hope to see you there too.  With stilts on.
